A Mini Break

A Mini Break

Dear lovely people out there, this week I am having a mini break, so will not post. I will go to faraway shores and fetch energy anew and fill my tic toc brain with new ideas and inspirations. Hopefully I will return in one piece and will spread some more words around the world and craft things for the eyes to feast on.

And on that note I leave a little saying by Marion Kaplinsky:-
''You come into the world crying
while all  around you are smiling. Like your life so that you leave  it smiling while all around you are crying''

while all  around you are smiling
Enjoy the lovely smiling faces of the pansies from our garden!

Keep on Happy Smiling Crafting!

Do not be afraid…

Do not be afraid…
Someone sent me these lovely words ‘’ The essential part of creativity is not being afraid to fail’’

How often in life (as adults) we do not venture outside the box, afraid of what the world will say or afraid of personal failure? On our creativity side we are then suppressed by outside opinion and not opinion from the heart within.

Another factor that also plays a big role is age. With age (hopefully) comes wisdom and when we look back sometimes we have regrets of not doing what the heart said and listened to the outside world. We were too afraid to follow the heart and be creative in heart and soul. Afraid of failure.

Each one of us is so special and unique so do not be afraid to fail, just lift yourself up and start all over again and the fears will soon become vague memories of many moons ago. We are all dependant on one another in some or  other way and it is through this bond that we can get inspiration anew for whatever we do!

My inspiration was short lived when my grand child got hold of some of my crotchet and unravelled all 60 chain stitches. Maybe he wanted to help?

...got hold of some of my crotchet
and unravelled all 60 chain stitches...

Here is a love heart made from the colours picked from the Autumn leaves, adorned with little beads and ribbons – an inspiration to all. Life is there, do not be afraid of it!

In the still of the soul (Green soul today)

In the still of the soul (Green soul today)
Knitting click clack click clack like train wheels on a railway line my needles break the silence in the air. They are talking to me – click clack……

I just like green (like I do all colours) but had to Google why I chose this colour when I saw it, maybe I have a deep underlying physiological problem..hehehehe..... any case this is what I found. (think I am a bit normal now- so I can rest my tic tok brain)

Grass green is the most RESTFUL  colour. Green symbolises SELF -RESPECT and WELL BEING .Green is the colour of BALANCE . It also means LEARNING, GROWTH  and HARMONY.

Another project to be finished and I am almost there, click clack… I sat knitting in the train from Northampton to Leamington Spa on Friday  - I sat knitting on the platforms waiting for  trains and hopefully soon the little beanie I am knitting will become something for someone someday. Every stitch stitched with love and dedication. People look on and sometimes the silence is broken and they ask questions or tell you about their knitting experience or that of a friend. One even loved the colour! (hmm good choice)

Our lives are like that too sometimes, click clack we live in silence only to be broken  by people asking questions or question our lives. We are busy making something, where they can see the colour, the needles, hear the sound of the needles, but do not know what the end result is going to be- therefore they ask questions – and sometimes criticise before the end result is known. Take care and be kind  with other humans’ ‘knitting’ in their lives – watch, wait and no matter what the end result – accept it unconditionally. We are all different after all.
Beanie almost done!

I once read somewhere, and I quote from memory…
‘’A soft word in kindness spoken
Has often healed the heart that is broken and made a friend sincere’’

Happy crafting and listen to what the click of your sewing or knitting needle say to you….

Have a Blessed week!

Awesome

Awesome...

soft yellows/pinks/blue merge

How can one but describe a sunrise like this? A promise of a new day, a new beginning. Like Cat Stevens sang  ‘’Morning has broken’’. Like I mentioned before, Autumn is in the air and already the morning temperatures have started to reach below the double figures, but the sunrises are still an inspiration!

Here are two little love hearts I made from  little bits and bobs, I was inspired by the lovely verses / poems that land on my Facebook everyday and that,  as well as the AWESOME sunrise this morning,  sent me on a creating spree (after I went cleaning a big house).

I was inspired by the lovely verses / poems

Whilst I was polishing and vacuuming away, ideas tumbled into my tic tok brain and I pushed the vacuum cleaner with renewed energy! Soon all was spic and span and I could rush back home to go and finish my creations.
Ideas tumble into my tic toc brain

Yellow like the rising Sun

(alas… our backdoor slammed from a freak wind and almost broke it – what co-incidence - there was a white van parked two houses up installing new doors and windows and the gallant young man came like a knight on a white horse (or white van if you are realistic) when I asked him for help, and fixed it within 5 minutes) Thank you my son!
Soft pastels

Hooks and buttons and ribbons

When things are lovely and then something goes wrong, along comes an answer. Is life not like that too? Sometimes we need inspiration taken from nature to fill us with awe and make us appreciate what we have.   We have eyes to see the sunrise, skin to feel the warmth, ears to hear the bird song and lips and voices to sing for joy and ask for help! It is in times like these that we have to take a moment and give thanks for what we have and think of those less fortunate than us to experience these awesome wonders!

Happy Crafting and craft with joy in your heart appreciating  the awesome nature around us!

Waves are rolling in…

Waves are rolling in…
How lovely it is to sit and watch the waves coming and going…it restores the soul and give inner peace to the mind. My tic tok brain gets a total make-over if I can sit and watch this for hours. Just sit.

watch the waves coming and going...

This is a photo of a beach somewhere in Majorca. I was alone, as it was still very early (hubby went for a day’s sailing) and I just wanted to sit on the beach.. And watched. And calmness just washed over me the same as the small waves went splish splash every now and then.

It reminded me of  some poem by William Shakespeare:-

‘’Like as the waves make towards the pebbl’d shore,
So do our minutes hasten to their end;
Each changing place with that which goes before,
In sequent toil all forwards do contend.

It is this peace and calmness that enters my soul and spirit when I start creating and making things.

’Like as the waves make towards the pebbl’d shore,

Here is a little flower I made. Blue like the waves of the blue ocean.

Blue like the waves of the blue ocean.

Our lives are like that as well, things come and go and come and go all the time and it is up to us to sit back once in a  while and have a look at it and make time to chill out and be calm. Take in those moments to watch the waves roll in and out – no matter what size they are -and let some just roll over you without  making you wet! Some waves come in and try and drown us, but that is when we need to swim! And if we cannot swim, reach for that life belt or shout for help!

Happy crafting and try to embrace each wave that comes your way!

Memories (70’s & 80’s)
Apart from making and crafting all the time, one of my passions is vintage fashion. I particularly love the 70’s and 80’s,  because I was once part of it. It is something that I belonged to, and it makes me feel good - then and now.

These memories of lovely fabrics we used to wear, stay imprinted in my mind and therefore play a big role in my love for them and my crafting ideas. Whenever I can get hold of some old dresses,  I restore and mend them with passion. Sometimes they are a bit altered with a new lease on life! I find this very adventurous!

Here are but a few samples of my collection - for those old enough to remember the patterns / materials and inspiring enough for the younger generation

happy memories of lovely fabrics we used to wear

Ideas and patterns with vibrant colours

Our lives are also entwined with memories other than dresses and clothes. Some memories are very  sad  and disheartening. If we keep on digging up those sad and painful memories instead of letting it go, it will influence and poison our ‘’mind and thinking’’  in such a manner that only bitterness will enter our  soul and slowly destroying soul and body.

many a student wore maxi dresses
with florals and bright buttons
to portray a carefree life

It is therefore so important to let go and forgive
and let unconditional love enter your heart and soul
to restore  your memories with positive  healing.

Lovely bright happy colours
to give positive energy in the mid 80's
(and I will not forget my hairdo' that went with it)

Happy crafting with memories of positive healing influences!

Sand, Sea and Sun

Sand Sea and Sun

When I made this casual nautical bag, my mind was faraway inside the pictures on the material, Umbrella, sun chair, light house, Ice cream –van and last but not least the little perfect little house by the sea.(Knots-see post 13 August )

the little perfect little house by the sea.

Ice cream –van

How lovely it is to day dream about things. Some are in your reach, but others are just sand castles in the air.

It is those sand castles in the air that sometimes keep us sane – to dream and plan and dream again with hope in one’s heart. Where there is hope, there is life.

One cannot exist without the other. It is when hope fades those castles disappear like sand running through an hour glass and there is nothing left to look forward to or dream about…. It is dreams that makes us alive and looking forward to the future.

If dreams are taken away from us, everyday life will become mundane and monotonous. If you start each day, believing that this will be the best day ever and you live it and keep on with the building of the sand-castles in the air, life will become one BIG adventure!

Happy Colours

Happy Colours!
And this is not a paint advertisement!
When you are sad and your heart can cry no more, that is when you need lot of happy colours in your life!
''You'll never see a dark cloud Hanging 'round me.....
Just look around and you will see the blue of the sky, the green of the grass and the flowers in pastels and bright, the Autumn  colours with their magnificent yellows and browns!

Like Petula Clarke sings:-
''You'll never see a dark cloud Hanging 'round me.....
So you can colour my world  with sunshine yellow each day, Oh you can colour my world with happiness all the way, Just take the Green from the grass and the Blue form the sky up above''....

One cannot start to feel happy by just singing these words. So if you are sad and disheartened, look around and see the happy colours! When you are aware of the need of another and point them in the direction of colours, soon their spirits will soar. One can only give out warmth and happy colours from within the heart to others, when it is there within to give out!

Here is a flower I crochet yesterday, now to decide which colour button I am putting in the centre-decision decisions decisions........
Just take the Green from the grass ...

Just take the Pink from the roses...

Just take the Blue from the sky

Happy Colours!

Brighten someone’s day today, remember you can only bring sunshine to others if you have sunshine  inside you.

Happy Colour CRAFTING!

Pins and Needles

Pins and Needles
When that hem comes undone (or the shirt got too small and it tears) that is when a person reaches for a pin (to put it manually back together) and a needle to sew, that which you have pinned  together,  can be sewed back to be whole again.......

Or when that button falls off… luckily most shirts come with a hidden extra button sewed onto a tag or a seam or in a little plastic bag when you buy it.

That is when you need a Needle book in your  home. One with all the little pins and needles and some cotton at hand. I am not talking to the ‘’crafters and sewers’’ out there! I am talking about the households who only knows about Needles and Pins as a song!

Here is a Needle book I made for one of those households. It is made with durable curtain fabric and instead of using cardboard and Bond, I am using a Flowery Pot scourer that caught my eye for the backing! And cheap it was too, 6 for a  £1.

put it manually  together with pins

Our lives are like that too. Many times we have ‘’buttons’’ that fell off along the years- unfortunately we cannot always put the same ones back as things change, but we can learn how to love and appreciate the supplement ones.  ‘’Tears and undone hems’’ appear and it is up to each individual to mend that tear in his / her  life with a bright fresh strong thread and a good needle.
fresh strong thread and a good needle.

the inner page get sewn on

the needles and pins get their places

a button is added to keep it all together

Appreciate the fact that mending can be done using the correct pins/needles and threads. Once that is done you will see the world with new eyes of understanding and love for life and people around you.
Finished item- a must in every household!

Happy crafting and mending.

New Season

New Season –
And the shadows are getting longer…

Here on this beautiful island it is the beginning of Autumn and at the other end of the world it is the beginning of Spring.

Autumn Wool and leaves

Nature and material getting together

Our lives are like that – we live on the same planet, but we are all different at the same time. Also we all go through different seasons in our lives all the time.

We all do different crafts and art projects, but each one is individual  and unique. Any art form has strong power and can inspire and encourage people from all over the world without a word spoken. Each art or craft is born from the person within, no matter what season your heart is in.

Here are some little pretty hanging thinga-ma-jings I made - all clothed in their Autumn outfits.
A little bit of love...

A little bit of colour...

A little bit of detail...

A little bead or two...

Is it not lovely therefore to appreciate one another’s efforts, no matter how small or big. My mind goes to the little drawings/cards made by my children when they were small.

Find your craft within your heart and share it to make the world a better place and make best use for the Season your mind is in at the moment.
